Last week in the workshop.

The web site has not been updated as much as I would have liked this week. Mostly because of the work load that we have at the moment leaving little time for even updates on facebook.

The main focus of attention is on a certain Rover P4 which had more rust and holes than I had seen on a working classic in a long time. This car has now been for an MOT which sadly it failed. The good news that all the welding passed and only the front brake pads, a ball joint and loose wheel bearing let us down. These items will be fixed early next week and then we should be home and dry.

The same goes for the Triumph Stag the list of jobs for which are now down to the final wiring and possibly  a spare tyre. This Stag is a good example of the type but even here we had to deal with some unexpected problems. The day a pretty full tank of fuel ended up spread all over the workshop floor is still fresh in our minds.

The GT6 Roadster (or Spitfire 2litre depending on your point of view) is scheduled to be away to the US at the end of February.Lately we have been buying spares from the Triumph Sport Six Club and I have to say that the service has been first class as it has also from Wins International and from Rimmers as well. Everything arrived on time and apart from the odd hiccup-was exactly what we ordered.

The Rover P4 ( GOV) is due back today from the trimmers ( fingers crossed). The work here included re-trimmming the underside of the sunroof and headlining, and a custom boot carpet which looks great. The boot lid is due to arrive from the painters on Saturday ( it's his third attempt to deliver this).

The Sunbeam Talbot 90 is also getting some attention: The brake master cylinder has been changed but the rear wheel cylinders are still leaking. We shall be ordering some imperial copper washers for this today. We now have a deadline for this car as mid March to get it running.

The news with the Scimitar is that we have decided what colour to do the seats. These are about to go to the trimmer. We just need to know which carpet to put in now. In the meantime, the outriggers have arrived for the chassis so we will start on this in the next few days. With the seat colour chosen, we can now go off to the factory where the dyeing will be done on the rest of the trim.

Also now heading this way is the Rover P5B (REGINALD) seats. We were having some problems locating a set of suspension bushes for this car but good old eBay helped here and an original set of Metalastic brand bushes are waiting to be collected from the local post office now.

Orders have now been placed for the first panels for the Triumph Dolomite Sprint. It will now join the Spitfire on the "messy " side of the workshop.

The body tub for the Rover 10HP will be delivered today. It's been at the blast cleaners and we've got a lucky break in the weather today so Steve from SJS is going to collect it for us. First stage will be the preparation of the underside. On another vein, the seat bases are now back from the joiners. The original seat bases were made from ply stuck together with glue made from animal blood. No surprise that the woodworm had had an absolute feast. Replicas have been made with a spare set for the owners next project.

The Austin A35 was prevented from having its shiny new exhaust fitted because the recon. head supplied was metric whereas the exhaust studs that we have here are all imperial. The correct studs have been located now and this is scheduled to be put on next week. We have also had contact with the owners club and apparently they have all the parts we need to complete this car. I did suggest that we should have this one running by March. This was met with a stony silence- so that will be April then.

After a busy week last week, we have a little more space in the workshop this week. After a delay the Jaguar XK8 has gone off to be cavity waxed and undersealed.

The Triumph Herald has been  repaired and passed it’s MOT first time on Saturday. The Rover P4 body repairs have been completed although it remains to be seen  if  it will  start let alone pass it’s test this week. Another  classic due to go soon is the Triumph Stag which is almost complete.

More vehicles are due out this week. The BMW  M3 needs a small welded repair in the engine bay and then it too is due to be undersealed.

The Green GT6 Roadster ( MK3 Spitfire /GT6 hybrid) is due to go out to the States for a while at the end of February. We had been waiting for some time for the spare parts for this car to arrive. Luckily for us they started to come in last week along and the  re-fit is progressing well.

This week we have two vehicles due in. The grey Rover P5B coupe is arriving back from the trimmer. We asked him to fit the webasto full length sun roof adding a new headlining as the original was perishing. The car has also had a new set of wool carpets fitted in the boot area to match the interior.

The other car due in is the red Triumph Spitfire that we completed last year. This car is booked in to have a rare hard top restored and fitted and a few niggles ironed out. One problem that we will be looking at is the chromed quarter lights that have never been quite as we wanted them to be.

Other work on this week include the on going restoration of the MK 3 Spitfire, the RS 2000 and Dolomite Sprint.

This week I shall begin to update the projects pages on the website so keep an eye out for new info on any project that you might be following.
