This was the first of our three Rover P5B COUPES to arrive. As delivered Reg appeared to be in fine order apart form a suspect gearbox. Plenty of on lookers questioned whether it was suitable project. The first stage was the overhaul of the gearbox. The Borg-Warner three speed auto box is a bit of a black art and no-one here is a specialist. We outsourced this work to a specialist outfit better suited to this job.
Once we had the car back with us, we completely stripped it down and sent the main body tub and outer panels off to be blast cleaned. At the same time we sent the engine components off to be vapour blasted. Other parts were powder coated, blast cleaned chromed or electro plated as required
When the car returned, we knew that the owners had made the right decision- there were rust holes all over the car- some of it was very bad. After weeks of welding the car was sent to nick for paintwork. The first panels returned some time ago and the shine is stunning. The main tub is due back soon.
Whilst all this was going ahead, the chrome work was done, the powder coating and electro plating was completed. We now have a massive assembly kit waiting at the workshop for the return of Reg.
